MKT Bridge replacement project scheduled to begin at the end of November

Columbia Parks and Recreation will begin bridge replacement on the MKT Trail on Nov. 27.

Officials said a quarter-mile section of the trail will be closed starting from the northeast side of the 3M Wetlands to just southwest of the Stadium Boulevard underpass.

Officials said bridges 5,7 and 8 will be replaced.

The wooden bridges are more than 120 years old.

Depending on weather, the bridge replacement project and trail closure may last through the end of March 2018.

Officials ask trail users to take advantage of the other city trails. For a trail directory, click here.

The MKT Trail may still be accessed at Flat Branch Park, Forum Nature Area and the Scott Boulevard trailhead.

The project is budgeted at $761,000, and funded by the Park Sales Tax and a Recreational Trails Program grant.
