Columbia woman charged with armed criminal action in Volunteer Drive shooting

A 29-year-old man continues to recover from a life-threatening gunshot wound after a woman shot him in his upper leg Sunday morning, according to police.

Police were called to the 5500 block of Volunteer Drive for reports of gunshots and a gunshot victim around 5:15 a.m.

According to probable cause statements, the person who called 911 about the incident stated the shooter was Sheri Nicole Williams, 37, of Columbia.

Police found several witnesses who were inside the home at the time of the shooting, according to the documents.

One of the witnesses told police they were in the bedroom just before the shooting when they heard someone banging on the bedroom door. When the door opened, they saw Williams go inside and drop a gun on the bedroom floor.

The witness said they ran outside the residence when they saw Williams, and once outside, heard one gunshot.

After the gunshot, the witness saw a black Chrysler 300 leave the home, which police said they found to be the car Williams was driving.

The probable cause statements also said another witness was in the bedroom with the victim when a woman, whom the witness did not identify, came in with a gun. The witness said they ran to the closet to hide and saw the woman point the gun at the victim, fire it and leave.

Williams was arrested on suspicion of armed criminal action, first-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Williams is charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action.

A woman who says she is the victim’s mother told ABC 17 News that Williams and her son were living together, but that Williams moved out of the home with their four children about a month ago.

Online records show that Williams is married to the victim, although, they filed for divorce in 2011, but didn’t go through with it.
