UPDATE: Jefferson City police arrest man accused of multiple car thefts

UPDATE 11/17 3:10 pm: Mark Yarbrough has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and receiving stole property.

According to the probable cause statement, police were able to track the stolen products to Yarbrough’s residence because one victim was able to ping his stolen cellphone.

Police said they found the pistol between mattresses and some electronic items were found in Yarbrough’s room.

Police said they found the keys to a stolen vehicle inside Yarbrough’s car.

UPDATE 11/17: Jefferson City police arrested Mark Yarbrough, 23, after officers conducted a search warrant in the 200 block of Benton Street.

Police said they found multiple items that were reported stolen including, handguns, pistols, and the keys to one of the vehicles that was stolen.

Yarbrough faces possible charges of theft and felon being in possession of a firearm.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL: The Jefferson City police announced on Thursday that officers had received 15 reports of thefts from vehicles throughout the city in the past few days, specifically in the Eastwood/Brookdale area, as well as on Satinwood Drive.

Police said a variety of items were stolen, including electronic devices, currency, and two firearms. One vehicle had keys in the car and was reported stolen, but was later found in the city.

Officers said no suspect information is known at this time.

Police advise residents to keep vehicles locked and keys in a safe place, make sure valuables are out of sight, never keep weapons in vehicles unless they are properly secured, and report anything suspicious.

Officers ask residents to call the Jefferson City Police Department at (573) 634-6400 if they see anything suspicious.
