UPDATE: Suspect identified after police chase prompts school lockdowns

UPDATE 11/16: Police identified the suspect in this incident as 33-year-old Brandon Hensley of Columbia.

Hensley’s pending charges include resisting arrest, stealing, tampering with a motor vehicle and marijuana possession.

UPDATE 11/15: Columbia police confirm the schools were on lockdown after officers received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the 1000 block of Seventh Street.

A caller told police they recognized the vehicle as stolen.

Police said when they arrived on scene, two suspects fled the area on foot and a pursuit began.

Officers said during the chase, a taser was deployed at one of the suspects.

The suspect was later identified as the driver of the stolen car.

Police notified the schools about the incident and told administrators one suspect was outstanding.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia public school officials confirmed Wednesday morning that Hickman, Douglas, Ridgeway and Ace Center are all on modified lockdown.

School officials said all students are safe.

The lockdown is due to police activity in the area.

ABC17 crews saw officers on scene at the AutoZone on the Business Loop, but it is unclear if this is what caused the lockdown.
