Columbia police arrest man accused of beating woman, stealing her phone and food stamp card

Columbia police arrested Donald Hammers late Tuesday night after officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of I-70 Drive Southwest, Royal Inn Hotel for felony stealing.

A female victim told police that Hammers took her property from her hotel room without consent. Hammers allegedly stole the victim’s phone, food stamp card and cash.

Police said the victim tried to stop Hammers from taking her property but he allegedly struck her in the face and chest numerous times.

Officers said they did not locate any injuries on the victim.

Police said they found Hammers in the 300 block of W. Worley Street and arrested him. The victim’s cellular phone and food stamps were found in the area, police said.

Hammers faces possible charges of stealing and a warrant for kidnapping.
