Columbia’s Lynn Street Cottages project moves forward

Columbia’s Community Land Trust Board held a meeting Tuesday evening at City Hall, where board members got an update on the Lynn Street Cottages housing project.

It involves building affordable homes for low-income families, with the land trust maintaining ownership of the land they sit on.

The goal of the project is to help families build equity in their homes while also having assets to help them move forward in life.

Eligible applicants need only have a certain credit score and gross income level to qualify.

Each home is expected to cost anywhere from $80,000 to $100,000.

At Tuesday’s meeting, board members learned the foundations and frames of the homes are nearly complete. They also took bids for a solar panel project, meant for the cottages.

The city is hoping to have the homes finished in March, and have families move in by April.
