Morgan County man charged with assault, accused of resisting arrest, kicking officer

Versailles police arrested William Dedrick on Friday after officers were dispatched to a local Caseys in reference to a male subject who was reported to have threatened the assistant manager and was yelling and cussing at customers.

According to the probable cause statement, the manager did not want to file charges, but just wanted Dedrick gone from the store.

Police said they spotted Dedrick behind the Eye Clinic. When officers approached Dedrick, they said they noticed his eyes were glassy and could smell an odor of intoxicants coming from his person.

Officers said they tried talking with Dedrick, but he told them that they needed to back off and that he was an Independence officer.

Police said they attempted to arrest Dedrick, but he resisted. Dedrick threatened the officers that he was also a police officer and was going to hurt them if they did not stop touching him, officers said.

While Dedrick was resisting arrest, he kicked one officer in the leg, police said.

Dedrick was eventually transported to the Morgan County Jail.

According to the probable cause statement, Dedrick has several prior assault charges and domestic assault charges and a prior arrest for assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Dedrick was charged with assault.
