Hallsville schools go into lockdown after reports of suspicious person with weapon in the area

A suspicious incident forced Hallsville schools to go into lockdown Tuesday afternoon.

In a letter sent to the parents, Marci Minor the Communications Director for the Hallsville School District said the district was alerted to a report of a person dressed in all black wandering between houses and possibly carrying a weapon.

While the incident did not happen on the campuses, the schools were immediately put on lockdown and the students were safe, Minor said.

The Hallsville Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, and the State Highway Patrol responded to the area and determined there was no threat to the schools.

Minor said any incident regarding student safety is taken very seriously with the district.

The lockdown lasted ten minutes, Minor said.
