Police investigate strong arm robbery in downtown Columbia

A man was taken to the hospital after a strong arm robbery in downtown Columbia early Tuesday morning.

The Columbia Police Department said the robbery happened at 3:17 a.m. in the 200 block of Hitt Street. Officers were dispatched to a verbal disturbance in the area after someone reported hearing screams.

Officers said they made contact with the victim and discovered he was in an alley when he was struck by a man multiple times. The suspect then took property from the victim before fleeing the area.

The victim was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
