City Council member requests support for medical marijuana

Upon the request of Columbia City Council Member Micheal Trapp, the council will review a proposed ordinance that would issue support for legal access to cannabis for medical purposes.

The ordinance would not make medical marijuana accessible in Columbia, but it would show that the city supports the Missouri Medical Marijuana Initiative. The initiative, which will be voted on in November of 2018, would make the use of marijuana for medical purposes legal in Missouri.

The ordinance, which is on the agenda for Monday night’s city council meeting, would express that, “the [Columbia] City Council desires to… request its representatives in the Missouri General Assembly to advocate for legislation which will provide such legal access… for patients, with a doctor’s approval, to cultivate their own supply of cannabis for medical purposes consistent with reasonable regulations.”
