Columbia police arrest man accused of stealing, resisting arrest

Columbia police arrested Kurt Pavitt on Saturday night after officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Gordon Street in reference to a theft.

Police said a woman observed Pavitt going through her purse and taking money from it.

Police said they also found a broken glass pipe underneath Pavitt.

Pavitt would not allow officers’ orders to place his hands behind his back, police said.

One officer’s wrist was cut on the broken pipe under Pavitt.

Pavitt was arrested and faces possible charges of distribution, delivery, manufacturing, producing of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, assault and stealing.
