One taken to hospital after crash on Providence

UPDATE 11/6: ABC 17 reached out to the hospital, who said that Olson is in critical condition.

UPDATE: Columbia Police have identified the people involved in Saturday evening’s crash.

Police said Shanice Lucas, 35, of Columbia, was driving southbound on Providence, and then turned left on Carter Lane crossing paths with the motorcycle driven by Richard Olson, 55, of Columbia.

Olson was thrown from his motorcycle and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Lucas wasn’t injured.

ORIGINAL: Police said one person was taken to the hospital Saturday evening with serious injuries after a crash involving a car and a motorcycle.

The crash happened in the 2600 block of South Providence Road around 6:30 p.m.

Ofc. Scott Lenger with the Columbia Police Department tells ABC 17 News the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Lenger said investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Both northbound lanes of Providence were shut down while crews cleared the scene and investigated the crash. One southbound lane was also shut down.
