Trooper serves last weekend of jail sentence in Ellingson case

Anthony Piercy, the trooper that pleaded guilty to careless operation of a vessel this year for the 2014 drowning of Brandon Ellingson at the Lake of the Ozarks, is serving his last days of a 10 day jail sentence this weekend. The sentence was to be served over the course of five weekends.

Piercy admitted to putting Ellingson in the wrong life vest after taking him into custody for boating while intoxicated.

Piercy was sentenced two years of supervised probation and ten days of jail time.

According to his probation regulations, Piercy must consent to drug testing, work 50 hours of community service within six months and maintain full time employment.

ABC 17 News tried to speak with Piercy as he entered the Morgan County Jail early Friday evening. Piercy did not respond to a reporter’s request to speak with him.

Piercy remains on unpaid leave from the Highway Patrol, ABC 17 News confirmed on Friday. Department of Public Safety spokesman Mike O’Connell said Piercy still has an active peace officer’s license.

Special prosecutor William Seay said he is still working to get Piercy’s license revoked. Seay said he asked for records from the Morgan County court on the case to provide the department.

Seay had asked Judge Roger Prokes to revoke the license as part of his sentence in September. Prokes instead deferred to DPS’s process for doing so, and left the decision up to them.
