MoDOT crews to participate in statewide winter weather preparation drills

In preparation for winter weather, the Missouri Department of Transportation is holding its annual statewide winter weather drill on Thursday.

MoDOT crews located in rural areas will deploy snowplows around 8 a.m., and crews in urban areas will do the same around 9 a.m.

Crews will be stocking salt and prepping the snowplows and other winter equipment.

MoDOT officials said the drill is important because it gives the newer snowplow drivers a chance to drive their snow routes and note any obstacles or obstructions they may have.

The drill also gives veteran snowplow drivers a chance to get acclimated with routes that may have changed because of new roads or lanes, officials said.

Officials also said the drill tests MoDOT’s winter weather plan to ensure it works and is ready to get drivers back on the road as quickly as possible after a winter storm.

The drill is expected to finish around 3 p.m.
