Book World closing stores nationwide, including new location in Jefferson City

Book World, Inc announced plans to close all of their locations Tuesday, which includes one that just opened in Jefferson City.

The Wisconsin-based company released a statement saying the closures are due to slowing sales, as well as the current trend of consumers choosing to buy online as opposed to at a brick and mortar store.

The Jefferson City Book World location just held its opening day on Oct. 3. And according to a company statement, all stores will remain open until the inventory is sold out. This will result in “deep discounts on books, toys, games, puzzles, magazines, calendars, trading cards, gifts, and all other merchandise.”

To help with the process, the company is hiring a family-run liquidation company, Yellen Partners.

Book World is currently the fourth largest book store chain in the country, with locations in seven states including Missouri.
