Columbia woman charged with fraudulent use of credit card, accused of stealing more than $16,000
A Columbia woman was charged with fraudulent use of a credit cart after she was accused of stealing more than $16,000 from an 83-year-old elderly woman.
According to the probable cause statement, Ruby Martin, owner of Senior Care Services, began providing services for the elderly woman in 2017.
Between March of 2017 and June of 2017, Martin ran a debit car attached to the elderly woman’s bank account, totaling $16,709.50.
The elderly woman’s grandson and her power of attorney stated that he noticed multiple unauthorized transactions and closed the account.
After the bank account was closed, Martin ran a Discover Card belonging to the elderly woman with transactions totaling $9,900, police said.
Two of the transactions were made after the elderly woman died.
According to the probable cause statement, Martin has a prior conviction out of the state of Nebraska for issuing a bad check.
Martin currently is a caregiver, which allows her to have contact with multiple elderly people.
