UPDATE: Police suspect drug or alcohol use in I-70 crash that caused life threatening injuries
UPDATE 11/2: ABC 17 reached out to the hospital, who said Spain is in critical condition and King is in fair condition.
UPDATE: Columbia police said the crash happened when a car was traveling westbound on I-70 near the 123.4 mile marker in the inside lane at a high rate of speed.
Police said the car attempted to switch lanes to the outside lane at a high rate of speed and the driver lost control and ran off the roadway to the right.
The vehicle went down into a culvert and began to roll, police said. Both occupants were ejected out of the car and transported to a hospital with serious and life threatening injuries, police said.
One occupant, Johnny Spain, 36, had no seatbelt on and police suspect alcohol or drug use.
The second occupant, Monica King, 38, had no seatbelt on and police suspect drug or alcohol use.
ORIGINAL: Emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle collision on the I-70 Drive northwest.
According to the public dispatch, crews responded to the crash at 11:10 a.m.
There are at least eight emergency vehicles on scene.
Police said two people were found outside of their vehicles with life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to local hospitals.
One lane of I-70 is closed and I-70 drive northwest is entirely closed.
