Columbia police arrest man accused of threatening another with a knife, running from police

Columbia police arrested Derek Gordon after officers were dispatched to a Steak N’ Shake on Worley for a physical disturbance with a weapon.

Police said while they were headed to the location they located Gordon in the Joe Machens lot.

Officers said when Gordon saw police he took off running and was arrested behind the O’Reilly Auto Parts store. Police said they found a black and silver pocket knife on him.

The investigation revealed the male victim had gone to the restaurant to get his car from his girlfriend. The male victim found the girlfriend outside talking with Gordon. When Gordon saw the man, Gordon rushed at him, police said.

Officers said the victim put his arm around Gordon’s neck to stop him from hitting him. The male victim noticed Gordon had a knife in his hand and took off running.

Police said Gordon ran after him saying he was going to cut him.

Gordon was arrested and faces possible charges of armed criminal action, resisting or interfering with arrest, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
