Mid-Missouri drivers to expect frosted windows Sunday morning

A freeze warning is effective until 9 a.m. Sunday for most of mid-Missouri, with widespread frost expected, ABC 17 News Stormtrack meteorologist Caitlin Harvey said.

Most people probably have not winterized their vehicles before Sunday morning, which means the warmer weather windshield wiper fluid may still be in vehicles.

It is illegal to drive with frosted windshields, according to the city of Columbia’s ordinances.

To de-ice windshields before drivers head out, it is best not to use hot water because the extreme temperature change on the windshield can cause the glass to shatter.

If someone does not own de-icer spray, a homemade version can be created by mixing two parts rubbing alcohol and one part water.

Law enforcement has warned drivers to not start vehicles to heat them up and then leave them unlocked or unattended because it’s easier to become a victim of theft.
