Pettis County man on the run, charged with statutory sodomy

Jesus Vanegas has been charged with statutory sodomy after he was accused of child molestation.

According to the probable cause statement, a female victim was asleep on a couch when she woke up to Vanegas on top of her.

The girl told detectives he was able to get Vanegas off of her and run to the bathroom.

A family member came home and the victim told them about the incident, detectives said.

The family member confronted Vanegas about the allegations and he admitted to touching the victim, detectives said.

Through text messages Vanegas also admitted to raping the victim, detectives said.

The victim was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital were a SAFE kit was done, which was sent to the lab in Jefferson City.

According to the probable cause statement, Vanegas has fled the area and law enforcement cannot locate him.
