Vandalia YMCA raises enough money for construction, needs more to open

A Vandalia YMCA is scheduled to have a groundbreaking ceremony Nov. 2 after officials received enough money to begin construction.

The Eastern Missouri Family YMCA will be a branch of the Mexico Area Family YMCA.

The new facility will provide 1-2 full-time positions and 10-15 part-time positions.

The community, organizations, and grant programs raised $1.67 million for the project, allowing construction to begin. However, additional funds are needed to open the facility, purchase equipment and employee salaries.

The YMCA is scheduled to open next summer.
