Two Columbia businesses violate environmental standards
Two business violated City of Columbia environmental standards according to the wastewater treatment plant.
Kraft Heinz on Waco Road, exceeded the city’s limits for oil and grease emissions. A sample collected in May, exceeded the permit limit by about 38 percent.
The city also said Watlow Electic on Pennsylvania Drive had a nickel level higher than that facility is allowed to emit.
Sometime during the beginning of the year, Watlow Electric released about 12 percent more nickel than is permitted.
Both companies responded to the city as a requirement to maintain their permits.
The city said the companies have since resolved the concerns.
