Columbia Department of Health reports over 5,000 flu shots have been given, 5 reported cases of flu

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Health says its staff has given 5,293 flu vaccinations as of Wednesday.

The department also reports there have been five laboratory-confirmed flu cases during the week of Oct. 1-7.

The department is currently waiting for the number of reported flu cases from last week.

According to the state of Missouri, there have been 47 reported cases of the flu between Oct. 1-7.

The state also reports 69 cases between Oct. 8-14.

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Health officials said they are still providing flu shots and no appointment is needed.
