Tracking a cool and wet Easter, more rain chances next week

SATURDAY:

Cool conditions kick off the weekend with highs in the upper 50s today. Skies will remain partly cloudy throughout the afternoon and Mid-MO stays dry.

EASTER SUNDAY:

Sunrise services should watch for a stray sprinkle in the early morning, with rain chances picking up close to noon. Showers will move through the area from west to east during the afternoon so egg hunting could get a bit soggy. The earlier the better is certainly the way to go for Easter plans. Highs struggle to reach near 50 degrees.

EXTENDED:

Northerly winds Saturday night will usher in dry air near the surface, which will help eat up rain chances early Sunday. Eventually the rain wins out, and showers will start to impact our region by the afternoon. Arrival time for rain looks to primarily be after 9 a.m. for those in the west, and closer to 12-3 p.m. for those east of Hwy 63. A below-average temperature trend is setting up for the start of the workweek, with widespread frost possible Tuesday morning. Sensitive vegetation should be monitored and covered. A hefty warmup is on the way later in the week with more chances for rain as well.
