US Attorney’s Office recommends Jefferson City man get 10 years in prison for child porn possession as part of a plea agreement
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City man has reached a plea agreement with the United States Attorney’s Office to plead guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.
Prosecutors will recommend Dylan Applegate, 26, get a 10 year sentence.
The Boone County Cyber Crime Taskforce received an online tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on Sept. 1, 2021, about a Snapchat user “uglybeardgod” who had uploaded two videos to Snapchat believed to be child porn. A detective viewed the videos showing two prepubescent females engaging in sexual conduct.
According to court documents, Snapchat gave information regarding the user to investigators and determined the suspect lived at the apartment on the 100 block of Venture Avenue in Jefferson City. Detectives identified Applegate as a potential suspect after getting his name from Google who confirmed the email was registered to him.
A detective on the case reported finding Applegate with a possible address in Linn.
Detectives located Applegate in Jefferson City after confirming he registered a vehicle that was at the Jefferson City apartment.
On Feb. 16, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Applegate’s Jefferson City apartment and seized numerous electronic devices.
During a post-Miranda interview, Applegate admitted to downloading and uploading child porn to the internet.
