Crash closes I-70 EB near Missouri River Bridge on Boone/Cooper County line

UPDATE 11:51 am: MODOT crews said both eastbound lanes now open but delays are still likely, due to a 6-mile backup.

UPDATE 11:20 am: Emergency crews said the crash happened when a tractor-trailer hit a mini van, causing the van to hit another tractor trailer.

Firefighters said one man in the van had to be extricated from the vehicle because his legs were pinned underneath the dashboard.

An elderly couple was taken to the hospital under a “trauma alert,” both had serious injuries.

ABC 17 crews said the traffic is backed up for miles.

UPDATE 11:00 am: Our crews are being told that the eastbound I70 lanes are being routed through Boonville to Highway 40.

A viewer told ABC 17 that the traffic backup is at least five miles long.

MoDOT crews said they are working to get one eastbound lane opened within next 15-20 min. at the Missouri River Bridge.

ORIGINAL: MoDOT says I-70 Eastbound is closed right now after a crash near the Boone/Cooper County line Tuesday.

It happened around 10:15 Tuesday morning past exit 111 at mile marker 114.

MoDOT says the closures is expected to last at least one hour and is encouraging drivers to take an alternate route.

Boone County EMA sent an alert out about the crash as well.

ABC 17 News is on the way to the crash scene right now to find out if the rain played a role in the crash and if anyone was hurt. We’ll update this story as we confirm more details.
