COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man faces multiple charges after allegedly shooting at and attempting to rob a man on March 23 on I-70 Drive Southwest.

A Boone County prosecutor has charged Leon Walden with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.

According to a probable cause statement, the victim called dispatch just after 10 a.m. on March 23 from University Subaru about being chased and shot at after he left US Bank on 507 East Business Loop 70.

The victim told police that he was attempting to withdraw $30,000 from the bank but the bank would not allow it. The victim said he left the bank and began walking west when two men he had seen at the bank stopped him at the Olive Garden and demanded money, according to court documents.

The victim told police the two men ran over his feet, pistol-whipped him, pointed a gun at his chest, threatened his life and demanded the money. The victim ran away to the car dealership. The victim had a cut to the head that was treated at University Hospital.

The victim told police he recognized the two men because they were at the bank with him when it opened. The victim said he may have been targeted because he tried to withdraw the money from the bank and the suspect could have overheard him, according to court documents.

While searching for evidence, police found an unfired .380 round and one spend .380 shell casing in the parking lot where the incident occurred.

Walden was arrested on a warrant out of Cooper County during an April traffic stop. He remains in the Boone County Jail. He is currently being held without bond. Walden does not have a defense attorney according to online court records.
