Tracking a cold and windy end to the week

TONIGHT: Breezy, cloudy, and cold, with lows in the lower 30s. Flurries possible overnight.

TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy and windy with highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Spotty showers or flurries early.

EXTENDED: With low pressure spinning north of us, colder air will continue to have a grip on the Midwest, along with cloud cover sticking around into Friday. Light precipitation is expected to rotate through the area overnight into tomorrow, bringing a spotty shower or even some snow flurries early Friday. Temperatures remain in the lower 40s for highs tomorrow after starting out in the lower 30s. We finally clear clouds out by Saturday morning, dropping our temperatures into the upper 20s to around 30. Widespread frost is expected, so sensitive plants will need to be covered up Friday night. Expect sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures on Saturday as we get back into the mid-50s. Sunday kicks off a more spring like pattern with southwesterly upper flow sending our temperatures into the upper 60s to around 70. A cold front works through Sunday night into Monday, bringing scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm through early Monday. Ahead of another system Tuesday into Wednesday, we'll see a chance for more rain and storms with plenty of dry time in between. Right now, the best chance for strong storms will be ahead of a stronger cold front on Wednesday. The Storm Prediction Center already has Mid-Missouri in a risk for severe weather on Wednesday, with all hazards on the table. Details will likely shift a bit as we get closer to next week. Rain amounts over the next 7 days will reach the 1-1.5" range. We'll cool down behind this front into the 50s for the end of next week, with rain possible at some point over the Easter weekend.
