Callaway County man arrested and charged after being accused of stealing, property damage

Callaway County deputies arrested Nathaniel Chiles Sunday for burglary, stealing and property damage.

According to the probable cause statement, deputies responded to reports of property damage and burglary at the Chiles Land Company.

Deputies said Chiles was suspected of causing the damage and burglary. Chiles had worked at the company but had been let go approximately two weeks before the incident, police said.

Police said one victim had two trucks that had windshields broken and other windows busted out. One of the trucks also had numerous large dents to the hood.

According to the probable cause statement, the estimated damage to both trucks was $10,000.

A weight house on the company’s property that had two windows busted out, deputies said.

Deputies said two items were also missing, a pickax and a stone arrowhead.

According to the probable cause statement, the arrowhead is valued at $1,500 to $2,000.

Deputies said when Chiles was arrested, the arrowhead was found with his possessions.

Another victim had a car parked on the property that also had a broken windshield and other broken windows, deputies said.

Deputies said Chiles admitted to busting out the second victim’s passenger window.

Deputies interviewed Chiles, who stated he took the pickax the day after he was fired.

Chiles also told deputies he was mad at his father and cousin because he had put in three years of back-breaking work.
