Woman recovering after being hit by car in crosswalk

Columbia police are investigating a crash that sent one woman to the hospital.

The crash happened on Broadway near Waugh Street Tuesday morning.

Police on scene told ABC 17 News the driver of the car did not yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk. A witness told our reporter the girl flew about 10 feet after being hit.

The officers on scene weren’t sure of the extend of the woman’s injuries but said they weren’t life-threatening.

The investigation briefly slowed traffic as officers took reports and photos of the area.

It’s not clear how fast the car was going or if the pedestrian activated the crossing signals before entering the roadway.
