Two men charged after being accused of beating up Cole County man

Two Cole County men have been charged with assault after being accused of beating up a man.

According to the probable cause statement, Cole County deputies responded to the 9500 block of Lookout Trail for a man being assaulted at his residence.

When deputies arrived on scene, the victim had blood coming from his left eye and it was swollen shut appearing to be the size of a baseball. The victim also had blood on both of his hands and arms, deputies said.

Deputies said they noticed a fair amount of blood on the door to the victim’s RV and on the ground near the step area.

The victim said Sean Stegeman and Jeremy Roark had assaulted him.

Deputies said Stegeman and Roark had driven to the victim’s RV to demand money from the victim.

The victim told the other men he did not have the money and could give them two drills instead, deputies said.

Deputies said the victim tried to run from the men when he was tackled to the ground by Stegeman.

Deputies said the men continued to hold down the victim and Roark held a gun on him.

During the altercation, Stegeman yelled for Roark to shoot the victim because he could not get a good hold of him, deputies said.

Deputies said the victim was able to get away before he was tackled again, and then Roark and Stegeman kicked him while he was on the ground.

Roark was interviewed by the deputies and he admitted to being there during the altercation, according to the probable cause statement.

Deputies said they noticed blood on Roark’s boots that was believed to be from kicking the victim.
