Osage Beach condo fire leaves several people without home
UPDATE 5 p.m.: Seven people have to find a place to stay after their apartment building was destroyed by a fire Wednesday morning.
The Osage Beach fire marshal said the fire started around 10 a.m. in the bottom right unit of the old Lake Chalet Resort near the 1600 block of Osage Beach Parkway.
According to some of the residents, the resort was turned into condo-style apartments several years ago.
The fire marshal said when firefighters arrived, the right side of the building was engulfed in flames. He said that seven fire districts responded to the fire. Firefighters worked until about 2:30 p.m. to extinguish the fire.
One reason why the fire was hard to extinguish was because the closest water supply was across the street, the fire marshal said. Firefighters had to block off a section of Osage Beach Parkway so they could gain access to the water supply safely.
A couple of the residents were home when the fire started, but were able to get out safely.
The fire marshal said one firefighter had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion.
ORIGINAL: The City of Osage Beach has closed down a portion of the parkway between Jeffries Road and 5161 Osage Beach Parkway due to a structure fire.
The city asks drivers to avoid the area.
