Summer heat lingers, with isolated evening storms possible
TODAY: Temperatures this afternoon are already climbing into the lower 80s across Mid-Missouri and will continue to climb into the lower 90s. It will be a hot and humid day across the region. The humidity will make it feel hotter with heat indices reaching close to 100. In addition to the heat it will be a breezy day. Winds through the day will be out of the southwest up to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23.
TONIGHT: The heat will linger through the early evening hours, as temperatures only fall into the upper 70s by midnight. There’s a chance we could see a few isolated storms after 6 PM, as a slow moving cold front arrives from the west. A marginal risk of severe storms is possible with any of the storms, with the main threat being gusty winds and hail. The bulk of the activity should stay out of Mid-Missouri, but there is the isolated chance in far northwestern portions of the region. Winds tonight will be out of the south under 10 mph.
EXTENDED: As the lower level jet kicks in overnight, it could feed some moisture into Mid-Missouri that could aide in more storm development into Thursday. This will primarily affect those along and north of I-70 through the morning hours. The heat and humidity will stay with us into the weekend with high temperatures near 90 and heat indices in the upper 90s to near 100 under partly cloudy skies. Sunday will cool down slightly with highs in the mid to upper 80s with storm chances returning by Monday. Watch ABC17 News for the latest forecast and follow ABC17 Stormtrack on Twitter for updates.
