Flu shots now available in Boone County
Health clinics around Columbia and Boone County are still seeing patients with bad allergies and the flu.
Dr. Tara Flynn, with MU Healthcare said they’ve seen quite a bit of allergy related symptoms associated with ragweed. Those symptoms include runny noses and watery, itchy eyes.
The positive testings for the flu are also increasing this week.
It’s increased so much the Columbia and Boone County Health Clinic is now offering the flu shot.
However, they won’t be offering the nasal spray this year based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“The flu mist and nasal spray won’t be offered this season due to concerns about its effectiveness during the 2013 to 2014 flu season, as well as the 2015 to 2016 season,” said Eric Stann with the clinic.
The cost of the flu shot depends on the patient’s insurance. However, if they want to pay out of pocket it will cost $25.
Kids ages 6 months to 18 years old get the shot for free and no appointment is necessary.
