Man charged with harassment and stalking, accused of threatening to burn down deputies’ house

A Cooper County man has been charged with harassment and stalking after he was accused of threatening a deputy.

According to the probable cause statement, Herbert Shackleford made threats to a detention sergeant that he planned to burn down the houses of two Cooper County deputies.

Deputies said Shackleford made these statements in the Cooper County Detention Center.

Deputies noted Shackleford said he knew where one deputy lived, and if he wanted to do something, he could.

On Tuesday, the judge charged Shackleford with harassment and stalking after he said Shackleford intended to cause the deputy to reasonably fear for his safety and the safety of his family.
