Camden County woman charged after single car crash leads to death of one occupant

Missouri State Highway patrol troopers arrested Jessie Underwood-Wilson in the early morning hours of Saturday after a single car crash turned fatal.

According to the probable cause statement, a trooper was dispatched to the single car crash on Carroll Cave Road. The trooper saw a gold Dodge crashed into a tree with airbags deployed.

The trooper said he saw two women standing outside with a deputy, who had arrived earlier. He also saw an unconscious female being tended to by medical personnel in the back seat of the vehicle.

The trooper said he was able to identify the driver as Underwood-Wilson, and as he began talking to her, he smelled a strong odor of intoxicants coming from her person.

As the trooper continued to talk with Underwood-Wilson, the trooper said he noticed her eyes were bloodshot and watery. He also said he could barely make out what she was saying.

Underwood-Wilson admitted to drinking, but said she only had consumed two beers, the trooper said.

According to the probable cause statement, Underwood-Wilson admitted that she and the two other females were on the road to go “gravel roading.”

The trooper said he identified the unconscious female as Samantha Holmes. EMS personnel advised the trooper that Holmes’ injuries were very serious and she was transported to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia in a Staff for Life helicopter.

The trooper said he conducted a field sobriety test on Underwood-Wilson who had a hard time reciting her alphabet and tested positive for alcohol in a preliminary breath test.

The trooper placed Underwood-Wilson under arrest for driving while intoxicated-resulting in serious physical injury. She was also charged with operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner and operating a motor vehicle without maintaining proof of financial responsibility.

Holmes later died from her injuries.
