Sedalia police arrest man, say they found drugs and gun in his possession
Sedalia police arrested Jose Contreras on Thursday after they say they found drugs and a gun on his person.
According to the probable cause statement, police were made aware of Contreras after an informant tipped off authorities that he may be in possession of drugs.
Police found the vehicle that Contreras was suspected to be in.
Police say when they approached the vehicle, there were four adults and three children inside, including Contreras.
The vehicle owner gave police consent to search her vehicle.
Police say when they made contact with Contreras, they asked if he had anything illegal on him. Contreras would not allow the officers to search him, so the police asked for him to step out of the vehicle.
Police say when Contreras exited the vehicle, he had his hands inside his pants pocket. Officers asked him to stop his actions, but he would not comply, according to police.
Police say for their safety they walked Contreras away from the vehicle and attempted to put handcuffs on him.
Police say when they were attempting to put the handcuffs on him, one officer spotted a gun in Contreras’ waistband.
Officers put Contreras in handcuffs and searched him, at which point they say they found a substance that tested positive for meth.
Police say they ran the serial number on the gun and discovered that it was reported stolen out of Troy.
According to the press release, Contreras said he had found the gun and was not planning on using the meth.
Contreras was arrested and is charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon and receiving stolen property.
