Woman charged with perjury for lying during a deposition in a murder case

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Prosecutors charged a Columbia woman for lying during a deposition in a murder case.

Lyric Fernandez is accused of giving a fake alibi for a murder suspect.

New court documents say Fernandez said she was with suspect Malik Townsend during the time Jakob Cole was shot and killed in February 2021.

But documents say GPS coordinates and text messages show they were not together that night.

Townsend pleaded guilty to the murder in January and was sentenced to 27 years in prison.
