Resident calls for activism after shooting on McKee street

Police have responded to the area around McKee Street Park for two separate gun-related instances this past week. Wednesday night officers found shell casings just outside the park, but no one was injured. Friday night police responded to a shots heard call to find 31-year old Nathan Taylor with a gunshot wound. Taylor died after medical personnel picked him up.

Samantha has lived by the McKee Street Park before it was given a $75,000 makeover last year. Before the renovation the park was not known for its safety. In 2013, 17-year old Tre’veon Marshall was killed in McKee Street Park.

But Samantha hopes recent events serve as a call to action for her community. “We can stop the violence,” she said. “I believe if we come together, we make a plan… I’m pretty sure we can stop the violence.”
