Motorcyclist flown to hospital after crash in Cole County

One man was flown to the hospital Wednesday night after a crash in Jefferson City.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers said 45-year-old Joseph Whalen was riding a motorcycle westbound on Bagnall Drive near Starlite Drive when he took a turn too fast and crossed the center line.

Whelan’s motorcycle struck a pickup truck driven by Wayne Phillips almost head-on.

Whelan lost control of his motorcycle, which overturned and skidded to a stop on the road.

Philips was unharmed after the crash but Whelan received serious injuries and was life-flighted to the University Hospital in Columbia.
