Appeals court to rehear lawsuit involving former Ferguson police officer

The friend who was with Michael Brown on the day he was fatally shot by a police officer is now filing a lawsuit.

The shooting happened on Aug. 9, 2014 in Ferguson. It sparked massive protests nationwide after the white officer was not charged for killing the black teen.

On Tuesday, the full 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to hear the case, which was filed by Brown’s friend, Dorian Johnson.

He alleges he was illegally detained by the former officer involved in the shooting, Darren Wilson.

Wilson later resigned from his position.
