Columbia man charged with murder after Sunday shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Boone County prosecutor has charged a Columbia man for murder in a late Sunday killing in the city's northeast.
Samuel E. Brotherton, 21, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Brotherton called dispatch and said he had shot his father, Rollin G. Thompson, 64, on Sunday in the 3800 block of Pinecrest Drive at about 11:45 p.m., according to court records.
Once officers arrived they found Thompson with a gunshot wound inside the residence; Thompson was then taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators listened to the Boone County Joint Communications call from Samuel, where he told the dispatcher that he had an argument with Thompson and decided to shoot him, according to court documents.
A man at the home where the shooting occurred who identified himself as a family member said Brotherton was Thompson's stepson.
Brotherton is being held without bond at the Boone County Jail, according to jail records.
