Active wet pattern to stick around through the weekend
THURSDAY: It’s been a cloudy and wet start to the day, but we’re slowly seeing some improvement in sky conditions. The rain that fell this morning across Mid-Missouri has since tracked near I-44. On the backside of that rain, we are seeing clouds beginning to break up and temperatures warm into the upper 70s and lower 80s. Through the remainder of today we’ll likely see dry conditions, with winds remaining out of the southwest under 15 mph. By evening, a cold front will track close to Mid-Missouri, which will set the stage for another round of showers and storms and some of these could be on the strong side.
TONIGHT: There is a marginal risk for severe weather this evening for parts of Mid-Missouri. Most of the activity will hold off until we head through the overnight hours, but any storms we do see fire could be on the strong side. In the upper levels of the atmosphere, there is a lot of wind shear, which means any severe storms will have the greatest threat for damaging winds and hail. The greatest threat for storms will arrive as we head overnight, as a cold front is set to track through Mid-Missouri. Rainfall amounts won’t be impressive, with many locations seeing less than a .25″. Overnight lows will bottom out near 67 degrees with winds shifting out of the northwest under 8 mph.
EXTENDED: An unsettled weather pattern continues from Friday through the weekend as the upper level winds send waves of low pressure through Missouri, giving us on and off rain chances. Another wave of low pressure will move through Friday, bringing the best chance of rain to the Ozarks with lower chances north. High temperatures will reach the lower 80s Friday with spotty showers and t-storms. The greatest threat for rain exists southwest of the Lake of the Ozarks, where an additional .25″ of rain will likely be seen. Heading into the weekend, rain Saturday doesn’t look as impressive, as the front looks to hold up to our south. However, there is a chance we could see isolated showers and storms mainly south of I-70. Sunday looks to be the better chance during the weekend of seeing heavy rain and cooler temperatures. High temperatures will stay near 80 both Saturday and Sunday, as the unseasonably cool temperatures continues.
