Early morning fire scorches Fulton home

The Fulton Fire Department responded Monday morning to a residential fire at 906 Nichols Street in Fulton.

When crews arrived, they say heavy smoke and flames were showing from the single-story house.

Crews said they were able to bring the fire under control within 15 to 20 minutes.

“The only thing that could not be ruled out as the cause of the fire is smoking materials on the screened in porch of the residence,” said chief Kevin Coffelt of the Fulton Fire Department. “The fire has been ruled accidental in nature.”

The department said three people were at the home when the fire began and were able to get themselves and three pets out, adding that next door neighbors alerted the residents that their house was on fire.

The fire was so intense that another home and a shed received minor damage.

Central Callaway Fire Protection District, Fulton Police Department, Callaway County Sheriff’s Department and Callaway County Ambulance District were on scene and assisted with traffic, crowd control and rehab operations.
