The heat is on for Mid-Missouri this week

TODAY: Skies will start out clear and sunny for Mid-Missouri. Temperatures today will rise into the lower 90s by the afternoon with heat indices rising into the upper 90s. Conditions will be hot and sticky. There is a chance for scattered thunderstorms for areas east of US 63 beginning in the afternoon, though most of Mid-Missouri will see a dry day. Winds will be turning from southwesterly to northwesterly at 3-8 mph.

TONIGHT: Areas east of US 63 continue to have the potential to see a few hit and miss thunderstorms. Some of these storms are under a marginal risk to become severe, mainly for our northeastern counties, with the main threat being gusty winds and hail. The rest of Mid-Missouri will stay dry overnight. Expect low temperatures around 70 degrees.

EXTENDED: A building ridge from the west will allow the return of dry weather along with high heat and humidity for next week. Temperatures will reach the low to mid 90s Monday and Tuesday and the mid-upper 90s by Wednesday and Thursday. Heat indices will climb back into the triple digits starting Tuesday through the end of the week. Take precautions to stay cool and hydrated.
