One dead in Fulton house fire

A 67-year-old man died Friday afternoon after a house fire in Fulton.

Firefighters were called to the 900 block of Nichols Street around 4:15 p.m. Chief Kevin Coffelt said fire was coming from the right side of the duplex. Inside they found resident Stephen Rives.

Coffelt said emergency responders tried to revive Rives, but were unsuccessful and was pronounced dead.

A woman on the other side of the duplex was home at the time of the fire, but was able to get out safe. The American Red Cross is helping with her needs.

It took about 30 minutes to put out the fire.

Investigators believe the fire caused about $50,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet. The fire marshal, Fulton Fire Department, Fulton Police Department and the Highway Patrol are investigating.
