Extreme heat through Thursday afternoon

MONDAY: It will be a hot and humid day across Mid-Missouri as temperatures climb into the mid-90s. Thanks to a ridge building in from the west, this afternoon will be the warmest we’ve seen all year. Heat indices will approach 103-104 in spots through the day, with very windy conditions. Winds out of the southwest up to 20 mph, with gusts up to 25, won’t provide any relief either. Exercise caution when outdoors during the afternoon today and through the rest of this week. TONIGHT: Another warm and humid evening across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures are only expected to bottom out in the mid 70s. Winds will remain out of the southwest, allowing humidity to persist. By late tonight, a sagging cold front will spark a few showers and storms north of Hwy 36, which could help in cooling some things off. Any storms that do fire bring a marginal risk of severe weather, with the main threat being damaging winds. EXTENDED: The heat and humidity continue to climb in Mid-Missouri as we head into the coming days. This will bring us our warmest stretch of temperatures we’ve seen all summer, with temperatures in the 90s possible each day and potentially dangerous high heat indices. We will need to watch for the likelihood of a heat advisory with these high temperatures. As we head into the middle of the week, there is signs that the ridge will shift back west. This will open the door for a cold front to track into Mid-Missouri and bring cooler and wetter weather. The chance of showers and storms really ramp up as we head into Thursday, as the cold front is set to track through Mid-Missouri. Rainfall amounts aren’t entirely impressive, as up to an inch of rain is likely to occur between Monday and into the weekend. By this upcoming weekend, we are slightly cooler, with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. For additional weather updates follow us @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter and like us on Facebook.
