Last day to register for April 5 general municipal election

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Wednesday is the last day for voters to register for the April 5 general municipal election. All voter registration applications must be dropped off or postmarked before the end of the day.

The Missouri Secretary of State's website includes links to all voter registration applications. The website also allows residents to check on their voter registration status.

Boone County residents may also register to vote in person at the Boone County Clerk's Office.

April's election includes Columbia's mayoral and school board races. Other areas such as New Franklin, Hallsville, and North Callaway are also holding school board elections. Residents in Ashland are set to vote on a new mayor.

A local use tax is also on the ballot for Boone County. The rate, as stated on the proposition, would be "at the same rate as the local sales tax rate, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action."

Columbia Public Schools will decide on whether to issue general obligation bonds for, "paying costs of acquiring,
constructing, improving, extending, repairing, remodeling, renovating, furnishing and equipping new and existing school facilities."

This would include two new elementary schools, as well as expected safety and security improvements throughout the school district.
