Mexico house fire kills four dogs, two cats

MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

Four small dogs and two cats died in a house fire Monday afternoon, according to the Mexico Public Safety Department.

In a news release, the department said it responded to Bougainville Drive shortly after 12:30 p.m. to find the home's attached carport and storage area engulfed in flames and the fire spreading to the kitchen.

According to the release, crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire. The carport and storage area were completely destroyed, the kitchen had significant damage and the rest of the home had serious heat damage.

Emergency responders said they found four small dogs and two cats dead in the home. The residents told authorities they were able to save one pet when they escaped themselves.

The Mexico Public Safety Department said no one was hurt in the fire.

According to the release, those living in the home said they had been having some electrical issues in the area of the home that caught fire.
