Moniteau County deputies arrest three on drug charges

On Monday, the Moniteau County Sheriff’s Department announced a string of arrests that took place over the weekend.

Deputies stopped a vehicle Friday on Linda Lane in California, Missouri, while assisting with a fight that occurred earlier on West Street.

They identified the driver of the vehicle as 30-year-old Cody Stone of Columbia.

Deputies said Stone refused a consent search of the vehicle, at which point K-9 units were brought in to assist.

When meth was found in the car, Stone was arrested and criminally charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Stone is in the Moniteau County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Daniel Purnell

While investigating a motor vehicle crash on Highway 87 outside California, Missouri, on Saturday, Moniteau County deputies say they spotted 34-year-old Daniel Purnell, of Clarksburg, walking near the scene.

Purnell had an active warrant out of California, Missouri, and deputies took him into custody.

When they searched him, they found methamphetamine.

was taken into custody, but not before deputies say they searched him and found methamphetamine.

Upon further searching at the jail, more meth and marijuana that had been concealed on Purnell were discovered and seized.

Purnell is awaiting charges for possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance inside a detention facility.

The bond amount is set at $35,000.

Corey Wayne

Moniteau County deputies were called to check a suspicious vehicle Saturday at Manito Lake, just south of Tipton, Missouri.

Deputies said 27-year-old Corey Wayne, of Columbia, was one of two people sleeping in the car.

Upon searching the car, deputies found meth and marijuana, and arrested Wayne.

Wayne is facing charges for possession of a controlled substance and his bond amount is set at $25,000.
